Goal Setting: My 18 in 2018

One of my favorite podcasts is Happier with Gretchen Rubin and Elizabeth Craft. Recently, they spoke about achieving 18 goals in 2018, and I quickly came up with a list.

I love the idea of setting up concrete goals rather than some generic resolution. Then I can map out my year for when I want to achieve them!

A little bit of everything is included in this list, from cooking, blogging, social, financial, and health.

You will probably notice that most of my goals are not something that I would need to repeat every day because I know myself well enough to know if I have too many items that I’m tracking then I get overwhelmed and none of them are completed. 

First up, I want to do a Whole 30, which I plan to start January 4th, after celebrating my birthday. Along with that, I’m doing a 30 day squat challenge, which I hope my mom joins in.

1.    Host a dinner party

I haven’t hosted a dinner party in a really long time, but they make me extremely happy. I love planning a menu, choosing the wine, and trying new recipes!

2.    Travel to 2 new cities

I haven’t chosen the cities I want to travel to yet, but I’m really looking forward to it! 

3.    Try an Orange Theory class

I have been intrigued by Orange Theory after reading a blog post on PaleOMG. I love gym classes and I feel like I get a better workout when I take a class. Sometimes I go to the gym and I just don’t know what to do. There isn’t an Orange Theory in my town, but I just want to check one out in Sacramento sometime.

4.    Write a cookbook

I’ve been wanting to put together a free downloadable e-cookbook for a while, and I want to make it happen this year!

5.    Do a Whole 30

I’m starting on January 4th, after I am through celebrating my birthday!

6.    Finish an online class

There are so many great online classes for free. I like edX classes, though I don’t schedule them into my day. I want to finally stick with the material and finish one!

7.    Post on blog 1x/week

My new Monday Musings format will allow me to posts once a week, and I cant’ wait to get rolling on those posts! But I also want to keep bringing you other lifestyle content like recipes, meals, travel, and fashion!

8.    Read 12 books

One book a month is a very attainable goal. I tend to buy books that look interesting but don’t finish them. I have a plenty of books to choose from. Secondarily, this will help be weed out books that I just don’t care for so I can keep up with my decluttering goals.

9.    Finish an unfinished craft

I have started so many crafts that I have started but left unfinished. They take up room and basically have no use, so I want to finally finish one of them!

10.  Go to 4 concerts

I don’t go to a lot of concerts but I really want to focus on having experiences to look forward to all year. I already know I’m going to see Maroon 5 next summer, so I just need to find 3 more!

11.  Rely on batch cooking for 1 month

I think this will go along with my Whole 30.

12.  Post 3 months ahead-quarterly

In addition to posting once a week, I want to get ahead with posts, especially my Monday Musings posts, for an entire quarter. I think this will also go great with my batch cooking goal.

13.  Get a massage

I’ve never had a massage before. Since I really like my personal space, the idea of a stranger massaging me feels a little weird, but I think it will be good for my body and stress levels.

14.  Make my 1st YouTube video 

I don’t know what kind of content this will be. A What I Ate Wednesday? Product review? Recipe? I feel like taking the leap. 

15.  Bullet gratitude journal every day

A bullet journal is one where you write a few phrases a day, so it’s much simpler that a full-on “dear diary…”. Gratitude journals seem to help people increase their joy, so I want to give it a chance too.

16.  Do a 30 day squat challenge

My mom and I are starting this the 1st!

17.  Finish a grown up coloring book

Coloring was one of my favorite things to do as a child. I figure I can reclaim that joy if I color regularly!

18.  Decorate for every major holiday

Christmas is typically the holiday that gets the most decoration hype, but I don’t see why other holidays and seasons can’t get the same treatment. I think it would give me something else to look forward to if I decorated for any holiday.
